The newly-formed Madurai Corporation council, led by AIADMK Mayor, V.V. Rajan Chellappa, on Wednesday passed a resolution cancelling a 2009 council resolution that allowed Union Minister, M.K. Alagiri, to house his MP's office in the then South Zone office building.

The resolution was passed unanimously by the 100-member council in the absence of the 12 Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) councillors. The Mayor moved the subject in the emergency meeting agenda, based on a note put up by the Corporation Commissioner, S. Natarajan, to take back the 2,000 square feet of the ground floor, housing the MP's office at the now Zone 4 office in West Marret Street.

The space was allotted for the MP's office free of cost through a Corporation council resolution passed in September 2009.

The note said that the Corporation required the office space for the functioning of the zonal office since the number of wards under the zone had increased to 26 from the earlier 19 wards.

“The office (at present) did not have adequate space for accommodating the officers who had been working in a municipality, two town panchayats and two village panchayats (that have been included with the Corporation). Besides, it required space for keeping the records from those local bodies,” the Commissioner's note said. Reading out the subject, Mr. Rajan Chellappa said that the MP's office was not functioning since October 2009.

AIADMK councillors welcomed the resolution by thumping their desks. Its member S. Raja Srinivasan, wanted to know how the previous council allowed the MP's office to function from Corporation building.

The councillors of Communist Party of India (Marxist), M. Chellam, and the Pattali Makkal Katchi, Veerakumar, abstained from making any comments.

முன்னதாக கடந்த 2009ம் ஆண்டு மதுரை மக்களவைத் தொகுதியில் போட்டியிட்ட மு.க.அழகிரி வெற்றி பெற்று எம்.பி. ஆனார். அப்போது தமிழகத்தில் திமுக ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பில் இருந்தது. இதையடுத்து மதுரை மாநகராட்சி சார்பில் புதிதாக ஒரு கட்டடம் கட்டி அதை எம்.பி. அலுவலகமாக பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்ளுமாறு கூறி அழகிரியிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார் அப்போதைய திமுக மேயர் தேன்மொழி.
இந்த நிலையில் இந்த அலுவலக ஒதுக்கீடுக்கான உத்தரவை கடந்த 30ம் தேதி மதுரை மாநகராட்சி தீர்மானம் மூலம் ரத்து செய்து அந்த இடத்தை மேற்கு மண்டல அலுவலகமாக்க அதை மாநகராட்சி கமிஷனர் நடராஜன் மேயர் ராஜன் செல்லப்பாவிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்.
இதுகுறித்து அழகிரி கூறுகையில், நான் ஏற்கனவே அந்த அலுவலகத்தின் சாவியை மாநகராட்சி கமிஷனர் நடராஜனிடம் ஒப்படைத்துவிட்டேன். சாவியைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்ட பிறகு இந்த தீர்மானத்தை நிறைவேற்றியுள்ளனர். எனது அலுவலகம் பறிக்கப்படவில்லை. நானாகத் தான் அதை ஒப்படைத்தேன். இந்த உண்மையை கமிஷனர் வெளியே சொல்லாமல் மறைக்கிறார். அதை பயன்படுத்தி அதிமுகவினர் பொய் பிரச்சாரம் செய்கின்றனர் எனக் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

மதுரையில் கொசு"கடி' தாங்க முடியல... மின்தடை நேரத்தில் மக்கள் புலம்பல்

மதுரை :மதுரையில் மின் வெட்டு நேரத்தில் கொசு "கடி' தொல்லை அதிகரித்து வருவதால் மக்கள் அவதிக்குள்ளாகின்றனர்.
மின் வெட்டால் பல பிரச்னைகளை சந்திக்கும் மக்களுக்கு, தற்போது கொசுக் "கடி' தொல்லை சவாலாக உள்ளது.
மின்தடை நேரத்தில் கொசுவர்த்தி சுருள், "லிக்யூடு' போன்ற கொசு ஒழிப்பு சாதனங்களை பயன்படுத்தினாலும் கொசு கடியின் தாக்கம் குறையவில்லை. பகல், இரவு இன்றி எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் மின்தடை ஏற்படுகிறது. இதில் இரவு நேர மின்தடை மக்களுக்கு சோதனையாக உள்ளது. குறிப்பாக குழந்தைகள் அவதிக்குள்ளாகின்றனர். மாணவர்கள் பாடும் திண்டாட்டம். "இன்வெர்ட்டார்' பயன்படுத்தலாம் என்றாலும், மின் வெட்டு காரணமாக அவற்றுக்கு "சார்ஜ்' ஏற்றுவதும் பிரச்னையாக உள்ளது.
தேர்வு நேரத்தில் இத்தகைய நிலையால் மாணவர்கள் மன ரீதியான பாதிப்புக்கு உள்ளாகின்றனர்.

"ஏ.எல்.' கொசு ஒழிப்புத் திட்டம் மூலம் கொசு உற்பத்தியாகும் நீர்நிலைகளில் "பயோ லார்விசைடு' மருந்து தெளிக்கும் திட்டமும் தினக்கூலி தொழிலாளர்கள் மூலம் செயல்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.

மருந்து வண்டிகள் பற்றாக்குறை:
விரிவாக்கம் செய்யப்பட்ட பகுதிக்கு கூடுதலாக 4 வண்டிகள் தேவை. வண்டிகள் இல்லாததால், அனைத்து பகுதிகளுக்கும் கொசு மருந்து அடிக்க முடியவில்லை.
முதன்மை நகர்நல அலுவலர் சுப்பிரமணியன் கூறியதாவது: கொசு மருந்து அடிக்கும் வண்டிகள் மேலும் 4 வாங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
இத்திட்டத்தால் நோய்களை பரப்பும் "டைகர் மஸ்கிடோஸ்' கொசு 90 சதவிகிதம் ஒழிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. நோய் பாதிப்பை ஏற்படுத்தாத கொசுக்கள் உற்பத்தி தற்போது அதிகரித்துள்ளது, என்றார்.

The State government’s move to double load shedding duration of Chennai to two hours from Thursday has paid immediate dividends as the southern districts experienced a marked improvement in power supply through the day.

M.R. Rajendran, president of Kappalur Industrial Estate Manufacturers’ Association, with around 250 small units employing 12,000 workers in the estate, told The Hindu that power cuts were reduced to six hours during day time on Thursday from the earlier eight hours.

Further, the quality of power had also improved as there were no frequent disruptions in power supply, which was the norm earlier. The authorities had also assured the industrial estate that power supply would be provided continuously at night.

Improved supply

P. Sitaraman, founder-president and current executive committee of Plastic Manufacturers’ Association of Madurai (PLASMA), said that industries received power from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Also, the officials had assured to provide continuous supply from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Welcoming the move, Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association (TANSTIA) vice-president K.R. Gnanasambandan said that the Chief Minister’s move to form a committee to review the power situation would be of help to the industry. However, he added that the government must also consult the trade and industry associations and brief them on the power situation.

Major demand

Increasing the load shedding to the State capital was a major demand of trade and industry bodies in the south Tamil Nadu. While the daily requirement of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), Madurai Region, which comprises five southern districts of Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram, was around 1,100 MW, Chennai alone consumed more than 2,400 MW.

According to TANGEDCO sources, most of the urban areas in the Madurai Region were given only three to four hours of load shedding during daytime instead of the usual eight hours. However, the official said that widespread rains in the State could also have played a part in providing relief from power cuts.

Corporation Commissioner, R. Nanthagopal, on Wednesday directed the officials to put up a covered drainage system in front of the Mattuthavani integrated bus stand and provide roof for the two-wheeler parking lot.

The Commissioner, along with the Mayor, V.V. Rajan Chellappa, two advocate commissioners, M. Thirunavukarasu and J. Nisha Banu, inspected the bus stand against a backdrop of the High Court summoning him to seek explanation on the poor maintenance of the bus stand.

Mr. Nanthagopal wanted the officials to put up an iron fencing around the bus stand to prevent people from urinating in the open space. Besides, he directed the officials to put up boards announcing that a fine of Rs.50 would be imposed on open urination.

The Commissioner also asked them to repair the roof of the bus stand building to plug leakage of rainwater from the ceiling.

A statement said that Mr. Nanthagopal ordered to put up an additional seating facility for the passengers and asked each of the shopkeepers to place dustbins individually. The shopkeepers have been advised not to haphazardly park their vehicles in the bus stand.

People use to think "why should they pay 2 Rs to use corporation washroom". And now its better to pay 2 Rs and use washroom, Instead of paying Rs.50 fine. Lets see what gonna happen....
